How to light a 'Pump Light' or
How to light a 'Pump Light' or
Cara-cara menyalakan Lampu Pam/ Lampu Gasolin
Ok, firstly I want to ask, how much of you really know how the Pump Light look like?? For those orang kampung like me, for sure they will know this things.. Ok, lets take a peek of 'her'..
Note : All original picture was owned by http://acidwelding.wordpress.com/
Yeah.. that's her.. :p.. So, let's have a simple story before we go to the lighting em up part.. :)..
I used this type of lamp at my kampong way when I was child.. Electricity supply wasn't available at that moment until I'm 10.. We can't afford an electric generator so we use this as our main lamp for the house.. My grandpa will light em up usually at 5.40pm, and it'll be turned off usually at 8.30 where we will be sleeping already.. So, the first try for me to light this up is actually at 9 years old.. Where all I heard when grandpa giving the instruction was yell, yell and yell.. But I'm proud I still know how to light this up.. Thanks Gramps.. :p..
Ok, let we know what is the main part of this lamp..

made of fabric, I still wonder how can this special fabric made from I don't know material can light a room..
So, let's go to how to light this up..
1st - Put in the kerosene into the tank by the (1) hole.. This pressure meter can be opened.. Done, close the pressure meter, then check the control valve (4), make sure it's close so that the oil wouldn't go up to the nozzle tower (5).. You can check this out by pumping it like 2-3 times and if it's open, then the oil would spread at the top of the nozzle (5)..
2nd - Now start pumping (2).. Pump and pump and pump until you feel it's hard enough (same principal as the bicycle pump).. Well, that's what my granpa say as I only use my child energy that time.. I forget already what the number it stated on the meter, but for SAFETY, half of the meter should light the lamp up already.. If it's more than half already, there's a small switch on (1) to reduce the pressure level..3rd - After pumping the lamp to half of the meter, then you may put some ethanol to a small pool (6) and light em up.. You may open the valve (4) bit by bit.. Don't open too much at first as it might be blow up.. :D.. This will burn the bulb (3) and you can open and close (slowly and repeatly) the valve until it is finish burning.. Perfect burning stage, and the LAMP IS ON!!..4th - Your lamp is on, but please make sure the valve (4) isn't open at full, half or half and a quarter is good.. If the light isn't bright enough, just keep on pumping until you got the desired brightness..Maintaining : Due to this lamp is pressured gas system, after a while the light might be dimmed, so just adjust em by the valve (4) or pump (2) em more.. ^_^.v..
Bright enough?? :) |
